What We're Doing... and Why

We've received many reactions to our adventure plans, including:

"Wow, everyone is doing that!"
"We thought about doing that too, but..."
"How can you afford to do that?"
"You're going for how long?!?" ("I thought you'd be gone for only a month or so")
"Aren't you too young for that?"

We laugh as no matter what we say, many people don't really understand what we're doing. So, let me explain.

We are an LDS (Mormon) couple from Utah with no kids, and three feline furbabies (Bella, Achilles, and Trouble). My husband has a goal to visit every LDS temple in the world. To give you an idea, there are currently 156 operating temples in the world and more than a dozen more under construction, and usually a few more announced each year. At first I thought this was an unrealistic goal, despite the fact that we like to travel more than we like to buy 'toys'. By the end of fall of 2016, we had been to 49 temples together. Now this isn't just driving up, taking a picture, and marking it off the list. We actually take some time to go inside and participate in the ordinances in the temple. I will go into this in more detail on another day.

My husband had the opportunity to help with some renovations on the temple in Tahiti in September for about 3 weeks. I met him out there and stayed for 2 weeks, and worked while I was there as he was also working long hours. It was a really great experience, and it got us thinking. We really can find a way to work from where we REALLY want to be... somewhere new.

We basically came home and talked about seeing more temples, and how we could do see many more without the huge cost of traveling. That evolved from using our hotel points and Skiplagged and other deal sights for cheap flights, to road-tripping... and three weeks later we bought our first motor home!

January came and we picked our date! We'd be on the road by May 1st! It seemed like an eternity to do, but with a house full of stuff, a long list of to-do's, and a motor home we didn't really know how to use, we knew the time would fly by quickly!

March came and we started so sell our stuff! Really, we sold almost everything we owned. The process was challenging, and addicting, but we'll talk more about that later. April we found Renters for our house and were out on May 1st!

These last few months have been so challenging, but we're ready for a huge change. Life has been too crazy for too long, and we are ready for something different! This adventure is different for us as we intend to work and I'll complete my MAcc and MBA degrees from the road, so this isn't the typical "Retirement Ride". We also have to work and support ourselves, but will do it from a new location now again, and hope to enjoy a it from a new location every now and again!

We're crazy, we know, but we're so glad we have our friends and family to share this crazy adventure with!
